Punchdrunk was formed by childhood friends Judd Counsell, Rick Donner Steve Koester and Galen Polivka in Milwaukee in 1992. The band moved to Minneapolis shortly thereafter and to New York City in 1998. They released three albums: From Dad, A Message from the Cockpit, and Bird Bird. Polivka & Counsell later joined The Hold Steady. Koester went on to record as Koester, Maplewood, & Two Dark Birds.
